Edward Stafford, the only person at the time to rival the king in wealth and status, was responsible for the original design and construction of the castle. Henry did not appreciate the show of wealth and ambition, and after Stafford was found guilty of treason, the king took possession of the castle. Thornbury Castle, Henry and Anne Boleyn’s brief but cherished retreat, has survived the turmoil of British history over the years. The suites are in every way the top and they are conveniently located at the top of the South Wing tower. Once you’ve ascended the eerie spiral staircase and opened the stately wooden door, you’ll be met with exceptional features that have been tastefully arranged throughout the opulent living space.
