The story
The story of Green Castle
Green Castle is a self-catering holiday cottage in Llangain, Carmarthenshire, close to the River Towy, according to its own booking listing. The name comes from ruins in the grounds known locally as Green Castle or Castell Moel.
Those ruins are recorded by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales as the shattered remains of a 16th or, more likely, 17th-century house, with an earlier wing incorporated into what had become a large cruciform Renaissance-style house. The building was already recorded as ruined in an engraving from 1740, and it stood empty and decaying for most of its history rather than being lived in as a castle.
Despite the castle name, the accommodation itself is a modern holiday cottage. It is not built from the historic ruin and guests do not sleep inside it, which places this stay at the lowest level of our scale.
The sleep

The cottage has four bedrooms with a mix of a king bed, a double bed and two twin beds, sleeping up to six guests, according to its own booking listing. Bedrooms and a shower room are on the first floor, with a living room, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor.
None of the bedrooms are inside the historic ruin in the garden. The cottage is a separate, modern building.

Carmarthen Castle is about 3.7 miles away and Llansteffan Castle about 5 miles away.
The property has a hot tub and allows up to two pets, according to its own booking listing.

Who it's for
Who Green Castle suits
Green Castle suits families and small groups wanting a self-catering base with a hot tub and river views near Carmarthen, including those travelling with a dog.
