About Conwy Castle

Conwy Castle stands above the estuary of the River Conwy in North Wales. According to Cadw, it was built for King Edward I by his architect, Master James of St George, and completed in four years between 1283 and 1287. It has eight towers and, in Cadw's words, the most intact set of medieval royal apartments in Wales.

Conwy is one of four castles built for Edward I in North Wales that together form a World Heritage Site, alongside Beaumaris, Harlech and Caernarfon castles, according to Cadw. The castle was built as part of a fortified town, with walls linking it directly to the medieval walled town of Conwy.
