Kilconquhar Castle Estate

Accommodation is split between rooms inside the castle building and a wide range of self-catering cottages, town houses and villas dispersed around the 120-acre grounds, according to the estate's own website. Inside the castle building are Double, Twin and Family hotel rooms, each sleeping two adults (family rooms also take two children), plus a two-bedroom self-catering apartment sleeping up to six.

Away from the castle building, the self-catering cottages and villas range from two-bedroom cottages sleeping up to four people to a four-bedroom villa sleeping up to ten, with some options including a sauna or a hot tub. If sleeping inside the castle building matters to you, book one of the hotel rooms or the apartment rather than a cottage or villa.

The White Cockade Bistro is the estate's main restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with Scottish ingredients, plus themed nights such as steak night and curry night, according to the estate's own website. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options are available. For private dining, the Lindsay Room, a separate room within the castle building with a grand fireplace and flagstone foyer, can also be booked.

The estate covers 120 acres in the East Neuk of Fife, about a mile from Elie and around 15 minutes from St Andrews by car. Leisure facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a gym, a putting green and a golf driving range, all included for guests according to the estate's own website. During Scottish school holidays, children's clubs and outdoor activities such as laser tag and garden waterslides run on site.
