The story
The story of Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel
Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel takes its name from the village of Castle Bromwich in Solihull, West Midlands, rather than from any castle on the site. The building itself is a Jacobean manor house, built around 1599 for Sir Edward Devereux, the first baronet of Castle Bromwich, according to its Grade I listing entry.
In 1657 the estate passed to Sir John Bridgeman, son of Sir Orlando Bridgeman, who later became Lord Keeper of the Great Seal. The hall was remodelled around 1657, altered internally in 1719, and enlarged in the 1820s and 1830s with the addition of a north east tower wing, according to Historic England.
The interior contains late 17th-century plasterwork and ceiling paintings from the period of internal remodelling carried out between 1685 and 1702. The hall is now a hotel, while its formal gardens are separately owned and open to the public through a charitable trust.
