The story

The story of Number 6 Narrow Water Castle

Narrow Water Castle estate near Warrenpoint, County Down, holds two historic buildings. The older is a tower house and bawn built around 1568 by the Magennis family, with walls up to 1.5 metres thick, standing on the site of an earlier 13th-century Norman keep associated with Hugh de Lacy. It passed into state care in 1956 and is a historic monument managed by Northern Ireland's heritage authorities.

The second building, also called Narrow Water Castle, is an Elizabethan Revival mansion built between 1816 and 1836 for the Hall family to a design by architect Thomas Duff. It remains a private Hall family home, opened only occasionally by appointment.

Number 6 is a self-catering apartment set in the estate's courtyard beside the castle, according to the estate's own description, rather than inside either the tower house or the mansion.
